OTTAWA - Conservative leader Pierre Poilivre's plan to focus his party's message on the economy backfired Thursday, perhaps because his successful online brand was built in part by reaching out to hateful online communities.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, along with several cabinet ministers and Liberal MPs, jumped in after reports that the acronym "Men Go Own Way" had been included in Poilever's YouTube videos over the years as one of several tags. Improve online visibility.

The decorum of question period quickly disappeared in the House of Commons after Trudeau answered two questions from Poilever about economic problems before turning to the text.

"The Conservative leader's choice to connect with cheap online groups and drag groups that denigrate men and women for his own political gain is something he must answer for," Trudeau said.

"Women across this country want to know why he allowed this to happen and to see him take responsibility for it."

But in an attempt to turn the tables on Trudeau, Poilivre quickly moved to a response he has used in the past when attacked for his ties to or support for controversial parties.

He pointed out that the government was funding an anti-racist consultant who had anti-Semitic views, the number of women not in Trudeau's cabinet, and historical events where Trudeau wore black and brown.

"We condemn all that behavior," said Poiliver. "We have always condemned the abuse of women everywhere and we are asking the Prime Minister to finally do the same."

Poilever has been forced to respond to the criticism he has received from the House of Commons, which is a rare political attack on him since he became the leader of his party last month.

So far, he has managed to evade other forms of attack, including his embrace of cryptocurrency and his support for an organization that opposes the COVID-19 vaccination mandate.

The latter is expected to be the focus of the Liberals as this commission begins this month to investigate the use of the emergency law in response to the protests called "Freedom Convoy" earlier this year.

The Liberals quickly cashed in on the issue Thursday, sending out an email outlining their efforts to "support women and create women-centered policy."

Poilievre built an online following that surpassed that of other Canadian politicians, and the audience was crucial to his successful bid for the leadership of the Conservative Party.

The use of the online tag was first reported by Global News after reviewing 50 of the many videos Poilievre has posted online over the past five years.

Uniting The Movement

Global reported that the tags used in Poilievre's videos have remained the same over the years, including "mgtow," meaning "men going their own way," an online group of men who have decided to cut women out of their lives because of their beliefs. The gender equality movement is corrupting society.

Tags are not as visible to viewers as hashtags on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, but they serve the same purpose in helping people find content.

Poilievre's office said it was unaware the tag was being used in his videos and removed it after revealing its use.
